Style Intelligence
Understanding your proportions is the first step toward a wardrobe that works every time.
At Watson Style Group, body typing is the foundation of every wardrobe we build. Before we select a single garment, we study proportion, frame, and how fabric moves on your body. The goal is not to fit a category but to understand which silhouettes, lengths, and structures make you feel most like yourself.
Body typing is not about changing your shape. It is about understanding it, working with it, and making choices that feel intentional rather than accidental. When your clothes align with your frame, everything looks more polished, more natural, and more effortless.
We use five general frame categories as a starting point, but the real insight comes from the details: your shoulder-to-hip ratio, where your waist sits, your torso length relative to your legs, and how you naturally carry weight. Every client is a blend, and we style accordingly.
Broader shoulders relative to the hips. This frame carries strength beautifully and looks exceptional in structured pieces that honor the shoulder line while adding visual weight below the waist.
Shoulders, waist, and hips are roughly the same width, creating a long, lean silhouette. The opportunity here is to create shape and dimension through strategic layering and structure.
Hips are wider than the shoulders, often with a beautifully defined waist. This frame is about drawing the eye upward and celebrating the waistline while choosing pieces that skim rather than cling below it.
Shoulders and hips are balanced with a clearly defined waist. The key is to honor the natural curves rather than hide them under volume. Fit is everything for this frame.
Weight tends to concentrate in the midsection with slender legs and a strong upper frame. The approach is to create a long, vertical line through the torso while showcasing the legs and neckline.
Body typing is a useful starting point, but the most impactful styling happens when we move beyond general categories and into the specifics of your body. Where do you want the eye to go? What feels comfortable? What makes you stand taller?
These are the questions we ask in every Advisory engagement. Body typing is the framework; the real work is translating it into a wardrobe that reflects who you are and how you want to show up.
